The Homecoming on Broadway Title Page

Authored by Nobel laureate Harold Pinter, 'The Homecoming' is about a United States immigrant who (Teddy) returns to London after several years to have his wife (Ruth) meet their extended working-class family in England, where Teddy grew up and which Ruth happens to find much more appealing than their boring academic life across the pond in America. What happens as result of the visit is a hilarious game of one upsmanship among Teddy and his family as Ruth decides more and more to become a regular member of the United Kingdom while engaging in hilarious scenes of sexual tension with Teddy's male family members. In the end, Ruth stays in jolly old England and Teddy returns to America, essentially widowed.

Written in 1964, published in 1965, and put on stage in 1967, this two-act production has won two Tony's, one for the 'Best Play' in 1967, its year of inception and again in 2008 for 'Best Revival of a Play'. This hilarious take on what home means to several people and the ephemeral nature of female romantic desires has left audiences in stitches for years and has been well received by critics since the sixties. The interplay among Teddy and his family is simply amazing and is brought full to life by the actors. It is British humor at its best, timeless and witty.

'The Homecoming' is a classic and a must-see for anyone who loves theatre, British comedy, sexual innuendo, or just laughing in general. The ironic twist sells it and the layering of the writing makes this production worth a second, a third, or even a twelfth look. Come see what past generations and our neighbors across the pond already know. 'The Homecoming' is on Broadway for a limited time. Come see it to learn a little bit about a lot of things.
